Recruiting notes: FSU among leaders for 2021 4-star LB & 5-star OT

Social media allows for all of us to gain access into the real-time world of college football recruiting and as expected it was another busy weekend for the FSU football program with several highly regarded prospects announcing updates on the schools that remain involved in their recruitment.

The Seminoles and head football coach Mike Norvell got some good news from east Texas on Mother’s Day when 2021 OLB prospect Clayton Smith from Texarkana (TX) Texas HS announced that FSU is among the top six schools involved in his recruitment. The 6-foot-4 and 220-pound rising senior is also considering LSU, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Oregon and Texas as potential college homes.

Smith is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports, which also ranks him as the eighth-best OLB prospect in the country, the 16th-best overall prospect from Texas and the 105th-best overall prospect in the country.

Robinson Secondary HS announced that Florida State is among the 15 remaining schools he is considering for college. The 6-6 and 285-pound rising senior also lists Clemson, Alabama, Southern Cal, Virginia, LSU, Ohio State, UCF, Maryland, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Miami, Georgia and Florida as the other players involved in his recruitment.

Leigh is rated as a five-star prospect by 247Sports, which also has him ranked as the third-best offensive tackle prospect in the country, the second-best overall prospect from Virginia and the 13th-best overall prospect in the country.

One prospect that looks like he might be off the radar for the Seminoles is class of 2021 QB Kaidon Salter, who announced over the weekend that he has committed to Tennessee. Salter, 6-1 and 185 pounds, was on the FSU campus earlier this spring for an unofficial visit.
