As Florida State teams have returned to the field this spring (or late winter), the Osceola takes a quick look at the players to watch, schedules and other notes. Up next: Volleyball. We previously took a look at golf, tennis, track and field and swimming.
Coach: Chris Poole has 844 career wins. He also has won 187 ACC matches since his arrival in 2008, the most of any coach in that time period.
Fall season: FSU went 1-3 before COVID shut down the season early.
Matches of note: FSU opens the 2021 season against Clemson on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. The Seminoles also play host to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech in March as well as Syracuse and NC State in April. The full schedule can be viewed here.
Players to watch: Taryn Knuth was the ACC’s defensive player of the year in 2019. She also had 202 kills that year. Jessica Nunge played in 17 matches as a freshman. Jasmyn Martin, a Minnesota transfer, has been a consistent outside hitter. Morgan Chacon averaged three digs per set.
Newcomers must watch: The NCAA is not allowing volleyball early enrollees to play in the winter/spring season, a limitation to the roster.
Program of consistency: FSU has reached the NCAA Tournament in 11 straight seasons, one of just 11 programs in Division I women’s volleyball to do so.
