Osceola Outtakes: Evaluations of 2021 OT prospects Micah Pettus, Garner Langlo

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In our second edition of Osceola Outtakes, former FSU center and former college offensive line coach Mark Salva and I continue to take a look at the highlight tape of some of the best offensive tackle prospects in the class of 2021.

Today, we take a closer look at both Micah Pettus, 6-foot-8 and 317 pounds, from Harvest (Ala.) Sparkman High and Garner Langlo, 6-7 and 270 pounds, from Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic High.

Pettus was offered by FSU in January and is also reported to have offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Iowa State, UCF and USF among others. The rising senior is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, which also has him ranked as the 39th best overall prospect in Alabama and the 101st-best OT prospect in the nation.

Langlo hasn’t received an offer from FSU yet but is thought to be a prospect that the Seminoles staff wanted to take a closer look at this spring prior to the NCAA cancelling the April and May evaluation period due to concerns over COVID-19. Langlo is reported to have offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Pitt, West Virginia, Virginia and UCF among others. He is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports, which also ranks him as the 59th-best offensive tackle prospect for 2021 and the 94th-best overall prospect from Florida. Langlo is the high school teammate of 2021 center Jake Slaughter, who committed to FSU earlier in the month, and 2021 offensive tackle prospect Caleb Johnson, who has been offered by the Seminoles.

Hey Mark… he is legit 6’7″ and weighing in at 285lb currently – https://s3media.247sports.com/Uploads/Assets/301/736/9736301.jpg

Great eval guys, enjoyed watching it. I disagree w/ Mark on his “ceiling” comment. He is no-where near it yet and just the opposite feedback from some of the top college o-line coaches recruiting him now. Comments are… “he has the highest ceiling/most potential” of current OT recruits. He is very athletic, has height and frame to carry a lot more weight, good weight. Has the reach. Can bend. Good feet. Aggressive and hard-hitting!

He is not the most polished or refined technique-wise BUT he is very coachable and has unlimited upside.

Mark, his o-line coach is Brian Lane @ Trinity Catholic, along with Johnson and Bencsik. Excellent coaches that only started providing him instruction his Junior year. Prior to that he was at Crystal River High 9-10th grade.

He is only 17, won’t be 18 until Oct. 2020, still not done growing or getting stronger. Get this kid on campus and see him in person and you won’t want to let him leave… just ask Auburn and Georgia Tech.

Sincerely, thank you for reviewing Garner’s film and discussing him as a FSU prospect.

Hey Lars, Glad you enjoyed the evaluations. Garner certainly has an upside, good looking prospect whose visibility on the recruiting front should just grow moving forward. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
