Florida State left-hander Parker Messick, who struck out 14 batters in a win over No. 9 Louisville on Thursday, was named the ACC’s pitcher of the week for the third time this season. Messick kept in check a Cardinals lineup that had led the nation in scoring, averaging 10 runs per game, while scattering just five hits over 6.2 innings.
Messick (5-2) is the only ACC pitcher with multiple 14-strikeout games (Ross Dunn also had 14 strikeouts at Wake Forest). He leads the nation with 94 strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 2.93.
The sophomore left-hander was also named ACC Pitcher of the Week for his games against Samford and Duke earlier this year. He is the reigning ACC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year.
