Notes: FSU in top-6 for 4-star WR, update on grad transfer OL’s

Florida State learned on Sunday that it is right in the thick of the battle to land 2021 wide receiver prospect Keon Coleman from Opelousas (La.) Catholic School. The 6-foot-4 and 185-pound rising senior has the Seminoles in his list of top-six schools. Coleman, who is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports also has Michigan State, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Kansas and Oklahoma as his other five favorites.

Another class of 2021 prospect, tight end Michael Trigg, announced on Sunday that Florida State is among the final 20 schools he will ultimately decide between. Trigg, 6-4 and 208 pounds, also includes Auburn, Florida, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, NC State and Texas A & M in that lengthy group of favorites. According to a report by 247Sports the only schools on the list that the 4-star prospect has visited unofficially are FSU and Auburn. Trigg is from Seffner (Fla.) Christian Academy.

Another class of 2021 prospect that had FSU in his top 6 announced late last week that he was committing to Oklahoma. Four-star OLB prospect Clayton Smith from Texarkana (TX) Texas High School committed to the Sooners after considering offers from a list of six schools that included LSU, Texas, Kentucky, Oregon and Florida State.

The Seminoles are also among the final five choices for Houston graduate transfer offensive tackle Jarrid Williams. The other schools the 6-7 and 300-pound senior is considering according to Osceola sources are Baylor, USC, Ole Miss and Miami. Williams is expected to make a decision by the end of the month. He has already taken a virtual tour of the FSU campus. The Texas native would have one year of eligibility remaining and would be a major upgrade for either of the tackle spots on FSU’s roster.

On Friday we reported that FSU had offered a scholarship to Northern Illinois graduate transfer offensive guard CJ Perez. The 6-2 and 287-pound senior decided to commit to Temple, where he will be rejoined with Owls head coach Rod Carey (who recruited Perez to NIU).

FSU also offered another class of 2023 prospect. Defensive end prospect Keldric Faulk, 6-5 and 230 pounds, announced on social media last week that he had received an offer from the FSU staff. The rising sophomore is also reported to have offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan and Penn State.
