It’s been a busy week on the recruiting front across the nation with a lot 2021 prospects either narrowing down their list of future college homes or announcing their commits. And FSU has benefitted from some of these announcements and they did again last night.
Defensive tackle prospect Luther McCoy, 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, from St. Augustine (Fla.) Creekside High School announced that Florida State is among the final 10 schools he is considering signing with on National Signing Day this winter.
McCoy is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports, which has him ranked as the 62nd-best DT prospect in the country and the 165th-best overall prospect in Florida for 2021.
“One thing he shows on film is good burst for a big guy,” said Osceola Recruiting Analyst Charles Fishbein. “He also uses his hands pretty well. He can get off blocks. For his size you want to see more power in his hands. Technique wise, McCoy needs to learn to stay lower. He has a tendency to shoot straight up off the ball. He pursuits the ball carrier very well. He also finishes plays. His style of play is similar to Cory Durden who starts and plays at FSU.”
The other schools in McCoy’s top 10 are Baylor, Duke, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, NC State, Minnesota, Penn State, South Carolina and Tennessee.
FSU coach Mike Norvell extended another offer from a prospect from his home state yesterday. Outside linebacker prospect Harold Perkins, 6-2 and 190 pounds, from Cypress (Tex.) Cy Park High School announced on Twitter that he has an offer from the Seminoles.
Perkins has an impressive list of offers despite not being rated or ranked as a prospect by 247Sports. The rising juniors list of offers is reported to include Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU and Oklahoma among others.
