Norvell says discussions ‘productive’ in search for big-picture solutions

AMELIA ISLAND — Florida State coach Mike Norvell met with football coaches and administrators from around the ACC on Monday and Tuesday in what he called “productive” sessions. There will be more meetings on Wednesday.

“Have been able to voice some concerns of the things that are going on in college athletics right now,” Norvell said. “Trying to brainstorm for the best solution and the path of what can and needs to be done.”

Norvell said ACC commissioner Jim Phillips has a hands-on role in meetings, at the league level and nationally as part of the NCAA’s transformation committee. “He’s there, he’s present, he’s listening and receiving,” Norvell said.

The FSU staff is, of course, continuing to evaluate options in the transfer portal. Norvell stated “there’s the potential for a transfer or two” to be added, but also appeared to reference that coaches could use some of the available scholarships to reward a walk-on for his work.

In the video below, Norvell also discusses the team’s progress this spring as well as the experience of attending the NFL Draft with Jermaine Johnson in Las Vegas.
