Two August events for Florida State fans will not be held in 2021 due to the surge in the Delta COVID variant.
FSU athletics has canceled Fan Day, while the Alumni Association has decided not to hold the Kickoff Luncheon. The Alumni Association communicated its decision recently with fans.
“Out of an abundance of caution for player and guest safety, and to ensure that we can have a full Doak Campbell Stadium on September 5, we regret to inform you that the 2021 Kickoff Luncheon is canceled,” an email from the Alumni Association stated. “While this was not an easy decision to make, we feel it is in the best interest of player safety.”
FSU athletics director David Coburn said some fans had canceled their tables for the luncheon.
“We felt it was in the best interests of the student athletes, the coaches and the fans to cancel,” Coburn said. “We were already beginning to get cancellations from fans, so we were aware that our fans were becoming concerned as well.”
FSU will also not hold a fan day in 2021.
The Seminoles will report to camp on Aug. 6 and will hold their first practice the next day. FSU opens the season against Notre Dame on Sept. 5.
