Miss State shuts down FSU, forces decisive game 2

Aspen Wesley tossed a two-hit shutout as Mississippi State defeated the Florida State softball team 5-0 on Sunday afternoon, forcing a winner-take-all game later in the day.

FSU was 0 for 10 with runners on and 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position. The Seminoles’ 24-game regional win streak also ended.

An elimination game will begin at about 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.

FSU missed chances to plate runs early and made some solid contact later in the game, too. Josie Muffley hit a fly ball to the warning track in left-center field in the fifth inning, while Michaela Edenfield hit a shot to the track in right-center field in the seventh inning. Sydney Sherrill also reached on a leadoff walk in the sixth but was eventually stranded on second base.

Kathryn Sandercock gave up two earned runs in four innings before she was pulled, likely to give her rest going into the elimination game. A starting pitcher for the second game has not been announced.
