New Florida State baseball coach Mike Martin Jr. will earn $400,000 annually as part of a four-year letter of agreement with the school, a total that is significantly less than his dad earned in his final season.
The Tallahassee Democrat’s Jim Henry first reported the news and a source confirmed the details to the Osceola. An official contract has not been released to the media.
Former FSU coach Mike Martin Sr. earned $700,000 in the final year of his contract.
Martin Jr.’s deal is cheaper – relatively speaking – compared to contracts for many baseball coaches at the Division I level.
A large number of coaches, including Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin ($1.3 million), earn well into seven figures, according to totals collected by USA Today. Some others of note include LSU’s Paul Mainieri ($1.225 million), Arkansas’ Dave Van Horn ($1.1 million) and Louisville’s Dan McDonnell ($1.1 million).
