Miami’s bats heat up in game 1 win

Ariel Garcia had a three-run home run in the second inning to set the tone as Miami captured game 1 of a split doubleheader 8-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Parker Messick (6-3) allowed five earned runs in 5.1 innings. He scattered seven hits and gave up a walk with four strikeouts, bringing him to 132 on the season.

Jordan Carrion and Brett Roberts each went 2 for 4. Carrion scored FSU’s run in the first, stealing third and coming home on an error. Logan Lacey also had an RBI groundout in the sixth.

Carson Palmquist allowed just two unearned runs in six innings, scattering five hits and recording five strikeouts for the Hurricanes (37-12, 18-7 ACC).

FSU dropped to 30-18, 13-12 ACC.
