Florida State coach Mike Norvell made a statement to the Athletic on Tuesday in which he said he went “back and forth individually with every player this weekend. And that was something that was important to me because this is a heartbreaking time in our country.”
Norvell’s long statement continued with him saying the he wanted to have a platform where they have an opportunity to share thoughts and make a difference in the country.
Early Thursday morning, defensive tackle Marvin Wilson took issue with those comments. Wilson said this “did not happen.”
Wilson stated on Twitter that “we got a generated text that was sent to everybody. There was no one on one talk between us and coach. This is a lie and me and my teammates as a whole are outraged and we will not be working out until further notice.”
A number of FSU players re-tweeted Wilson’s comments, using “!!” as their comment to draw attention to the defensive tackle’s thoughts.
FSU athletics director David Coburn spoke to the Board of Trustees at a scheduled meeting on Thursday morning: “I want to tell you that coach just finished a closed team meeting with the football team,” Coburn said. “I’m told the dialogue was open and very candid and that it went well. I believe we are moving on there.”
