Florida State will have a new linebackers coach for the 2022 season.
Chris Marve remains on FSU’s coaching staff on Monday afternoon but is weighing job offers as a defensive coordinator at other schools, including Virginia Tech, sources told the Osceola. Marve has been FSU’s linebackers coach / defensive run game coordinator for the last two seasons.
Analyst Randy Shannon is on the road recruiting because Florida State got a waiver since Marve is weighing the defensive coordinator jobs, the Osceola has learned.
Marve has been key to the development of a young linebacker group, including Kalen DeLoach and D.J. Lundy. DeLoach had 69 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack and an interception in 2021, while Lundy had 68 tackles, five tackles for loss and a sack this fall.
But it’s also a group that has had little depth and recruiting at linebacker has been a sore spot during Marve’s time and prior to his arrival. FSU missed out on Miami Central linebacker Wesley Bissainthe on Saturday. Bissainthe picked Miami.
FSU coach Mike Norvell enjoyed staff continuity from year 1 to year 2 at FSU. At Memphis, at least one staff member changed each year.
It’s not clear who Norvell will choose as FSU’s linebackers coach.
