Morgan Jones scored a season-best 28 points but No. 5 Louisville was too much in a 75-62 win over the Florida State women’s basketball team on Thursday night.
Jones shot 11 of 18 from the floor and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. She also had six rebounds for the Seminoles (9-9, 3-5 ACC), who shot 45.5 percent from the floor but were undone by 17 turnovers.
Jones’ 28 points were the most scored against the Cardinals since Notre Dame standout Arike Ogunbowale dropped 30 vs. Louisville on Jan. 10, 2019.
For Jones, it is her fourth 20-point game of the season and her second-highest total of her career. Last season vs. Clemson she scored a career-best 36 points in a double overtime win.
“I thought Morgan was phenomenal tonight, and Sammie (Pusis) played well also,” FSU coach Sue Semrau said. “We just didn’t get enough all around, but we came into a hostile environment and played a team allowing 51 points a game, and exceeded those numbers. There is a lot to build on.”
Emily Engstler was tough to stop for Louisville, scoring 19 points. Louisville improved to 17-2, 7-1 ACC.
Sammie Puisis added 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting, while River Baldwin added eight points and eight rebounds.
FSU will return home to play host to Virginia on Sunday at noon (Bally Sports Florida).
