Wins over Virginia, Indiana and Florida — as well as an 8-2 mark in the ACC — have made Leonard Hamilton a candidate for national coach of the year.
The Florida State coach is one of 14 names on the Late Season Watch List for the Werner Ladder Naismith National Coach of the Year award. He and Virginia Tech’s Mike Young are up for the award.
FSU has steadily risen up the rankings in 2021 despite navigating through two COVID-induced pauses. The Seminoles are 12-3 going into Saturday’s road game against Pittsburgh at 4 p.m. (Fox Sports Sun, full list of Regional Sports Networks can be viewed here).
Hamilton and the FSU staff have developed a roster that needed two replace lottery picks Patrick Williams and Devin Vassell as well as free agent Trent Forrest. FSU has had a few speed bumps but also went 5-1 in January and is 2-0 to start February. The Seminoles are in the running for a second straight ACC regular season title.
Hamilton is in his 19th season as the Seminoles’ Head Coach and is the winningest coach in program history with 372 wins during his tenure at Florida State.
