Redshirt senior forward Kiah Gillespie has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, announced by the ACC on Monday afternoon.
As the Seminoles emerge as one of the nation’s top teams, Gillespie continues her All-America candidacy with big performances. In wins last week over No. 19 Michigan State and Clemson, the Meriden, Conn., native averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds. She recorded 24 points and 12 rebounds in a big home win over the nationally-ranked Spartans.
Gillespie followed her mid-week game against MSU by helping the Seminoles (9-0) to an 81-64 win at Clemson in their ACC opener. She recorded 17 points and seven rebounds in the win.
For the week, Gillespie shot 47.8 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc. The double-double against Michigan State was her 17th in 41 games played at FSU, already tying her for 10th on the school’s career list.
Gillespie is the second Seminole to earn ACC Player of the Week honors this season, joining teammate Nausia Woolfolk. The Seminoles are off to an impressive start, knocking off Florida and LSU on the road, No. 6 Texas A&M in Fort Worth, Texas (80-58) and No. 19 Michigan State at home (78-68).
FSU players have exams this week. The Seminoles’ next game is at the Tucker Center against St. John’s on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. (ACC Network).
