Just a day after the Florida State men picked up a 20th win at home, the women did the same.
Kiah Gillespie scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Morgan Jones had her first double-double – 11 points and 11 rebounds – as Florida State defeated Virginia 63-55 on Sunday.
Jones was an efficient 5 of 7 from the floor and her 11 rebounds helped FSU win the battle on the boards 41-30.
FSU (20-4, 9-4 ACC) leaned on its starters to generate the win. The Seminoles have won 20 or more games in each of their last eight seasons.
“It is something that we expect now,” FSU coach Sue Semrau said. “This team does not talk about getting to 20 wins, we talk about 25 and above. It’s nice having looked back, but with the caliber of players that are here now, they expect it; that’s why they come to Florida State.”
Nicki Ekhomu had 11 points, five assists and three rebounds, while Nausia Woolfolk added six points and five rebounds.
FSU shot 25 of 59 (42.4 percent) from the floor. But the Seminoles again struggled from 3-point range, making just 4 of 21 (19 percent) of their shots and hit on just 9 of 18 (50 percent) free-throw attempts.
The Seminoles now have a week between games and will play at Duke next Sunday at 1 p.m.
