Kiah Gillespie had a longer wait than expected. But the Florida State star is headed to Chicago.
Gillespie was selected in the third round (32nd overall) of the WNBA draft on Friday night by the Chicago Sky.
The 6-foot-2 forward led FSU in points per game (15.6) and rebounds (8.7), accumulating 12 double-doubles. She played perhaps her best basketball in eight games against top 25 opponents, averaging 21 points and 10.3 rebounds while making 52.6 percent of her shots from the floor and 41.9 percent of 3-pointers.
Gillespie’s selection marks the fifth straight year that a Seminole has been picked in the WNBA Draft. The run began in 2016 by Adut Bulgak and was continued in 2017 by Leticia Romero and Kai James, in 2018 by Shakayla Thomas and Imani Wright and in 2019 by Maria Conde.
Nicki Ekhomu (knee) announced she was putting off her pro career in the near term to pursue her career aspirations in the business world. Nausia Woolfolk will likely pursue a pre-camp deal with a WNBA team or could play pro basketball overseas.
