Florida State Women’s Basketball redshirt senior forward Kiah Gillespie has been selected as a 2019-20 preseason second-team All-American according to Lindy’s Magazine.
In addition to Gillespie’s honor, Florida State Women’s Basketball was chosen 11th in Lindy’s preseason Top 25 poll. The Seminoles were also previously ranked No. 11 in ESPNW’s preseason rankings.
FSU was chosen as the second-highest ranked ACC team in the poll, only trailing No. 10 Louisville (the Cardinals were picked 8th in the ESPNW rankings). Other ACC members joining FSU in the top 25 include Notre Dame at 16th and Syracuse at 20th.
In 2018-19, Gillespie became FSU’s 19th All-American when she led Florida State to a 24-9 overall record and an NCAA second-round appearance despite being the youngest team in the NCAA Tournament and one of the youngest teams in the country. She became the first Seminole ever to lead her team in points (16.2), rebounds (9.3) and 3-point field goals made (53).
Among Lindy’s five-member first-team All-Americans is Oregon guard Sabrina Ionescu, South Carolina guard Tyasha Harris, UConn guard Crystal Dangerfield, Baylor forward Lauren Cox and Oregon forward Ruthy Hebard. All five are seniors.
Joining Gillespie on the second team is senior forward Beatrice Mompremier (Miami), senior guard DiJonai Carrington (Stanford), sophomore guard Rhyne Howard (Kentucky) and Texas A&M junior guard Chennedy Carter.
The Seminoles begin preseason practice on Sept. 24, host their lone exhibition at home on Oct. 27, vs. Florida Southern and open the season at home vs. Charleston Southern on Nov. 5.
