Gainey transfers to FSU hoops

Florida State basketball was expected to be active in the transfer portal this offseason and has begun, landing Brown forward Jaylan Gainey.

A 6-foot-9 forward from Greensboro, N.C., Gainey average 9.3 points and 6.9 rebounds last season. He also blocked 2.1 shots per game and is highly regarded for his defense.

His best stretch of the 2021-22 season came toward the end as Gainey averaged 14.4 points in the final seven games. Gainey was also named the Ivy League’s defensive player of the year last season.

Two other players are on the move. Early enrollee Alaaeddine Boutayeb, a center, has decided to leave the program. FSU forward Wyatt Wilkes announced earlier this week he won’t return for a second senior season in 2022-23.

Guard Anthony Polite and forward fMalik Osborne have not yet announced their decisions for next season.
