Florida State’s opponents for 2020 are set.
And the Seminoles’ long-term scheduling is taking shape, too.
The Seminoles will open the 2020 season against West Virginia on Sept. 5 in Atlanta. Other non-conference games include a home matchup against FCS opponent Samford and Florida (on Nov. 28) as well as a road game against Boise State on Sept. 19.
FSU will earn $4.25 million for the matchup with the Mountaineers, according to a contract provided to the Osceola as part of a public records request.
Athletics director David Coburn confirmed to the Osceola that FSU also has an agreement in place to play Samford in 2020.
The Seminoles will play ACC games against Boston College, Clemson, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest at home. FSU will travel to Louisville, Miami, NC State and Syracuse.
FSU-West Virginia contract
As part of FSU’s deal to play West Virginia in a 2020 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, the contract states:
The game will air on ESPN, ABC or another network at a time to be determined
FSU will wear the home uniforms with garnet jerseys
Referees will be from a neutral conference (not ACC or Big 12)
FSU will have 30,000 tickets to sell at various locations around the stadium
Pregame team walks during the FanZone event
The school will receive 100 complimentary hotel rooms for Friday, Sept. 4
FSU’s future schedules in the 2020s
FSU also is set to face at least 10 opponents from Power 5 programs throughout the next decade. That includes eight ACC opponents as well as two non-conference games.
“We’re working hard to get those odd-year matchups to help us,” Coburn said. “But again that’s taking some time.”
An FSU-Alabama matchup in Atlanta in 2025 has been reported but not finalized. The FSU-LSU series – with the teams playing at New Orleans in 2022 and in Orlando in 2023 – is also in the works.
“I tried to get Florida State for ’23,” said Gary Stokan, CEO and president of Peach Bowl, Inc. “We really wanted that LSU-Florida State matchup. Florida State has been really good to us. They’re great to work with.”
Without naming schools, Stokan said he is looking to find a matchup for a Sept. 2025 kickoff game.
