FSU women’s hoops will open at No. 16 in AP poll

The Florida State women’s basketball team has earned a preseason ranking of 16th in the Associated Press Poll, announced on Tuesday afternoon.

It marks the 10th time the Seminoles have been ranked in the AP preseason Top 25 poll, all occurring since 2007. Historically, it ties for FSU’s fifth-highest preseason ranking.

Florida State returns an experienced roster in the 2021-22 season, bringing back all five starters from last season while returning 93 percent of its scoring. Three double-figure scorers return in redshirt senior guard Bianca Jackson (14.1 ppg), senior guard Morgan Jones (12.8 ppg) and senior guard Kourtney Weber (11.8 ppg).

FSU has proven to measure up against Top 25 competition in recent years. In their last 10 games against AP Top 25 opponents, the Seminoles are 7-3, with much of their current roster having experienced Top 25 wins against Louisville, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Michigan and Miami over the last few seasons.

Florida State’s highest pre-season rank ever is seventh, which happened at the beginning of the 2015-16 season. It was last ranked in the preseason in 2019-20 at 12th.

The ACC has five teams ranked in the AP pre-season Top 25, including No. 5 NC State, No. 6 Louisville, No. 16 FSU, No. 17 Georgia Tech and No. 24 Virginia Tech.

The Seminoles play their lone exhibition of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 3, vs. West Florida at 7 p.m. at the Tucker Center. FSU’s season opener is on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m.
