The Florida State women’s basketball team will play Wake Forest on Friday at 11 a.m. in an ACC tournament quarterfinal. The game will air on Fox Sports Florida as well as other regional sports networks.
FSU and Wake Forest faced off twice in the regular season, both Seminoles wins: 70-65 at Winston-Salem, N.C., on Jan. 23 and 78-67 in Tallahassee on Feb. 20.
The Seminoles went 9-7 in their last 16 games but still enjoyed a 5-1 mark vs. AP top 25 teams. That kind of up and down season has been frustrating for a team led by three seniors but the postseason represents a fresh start.
Some news and notes on FSU:
The Seminoles (22-7, 11-7) are looking to clinch a spot in the ACC Tournament Semifinals for the second time in the last three years and for the sixth time overall. FSU has won a game in the conference tournament in each of the last two seasons, including in last year’s win over 11th-seeded Duke in the ACC Second Round (W, 51-41 as the No. 6 seed).
FSU went 11-7 in the ACC. Only FSU and Louisville have finished with 10+ conference wins in each of the last six seasons, with the previous five years being against 16-game ACC schedules.
It has been a very productive two seasons for Kiah Gillespie, who has 982 career points scored at FSU in just 62 games played. The redshirt senior would join teammates Nicki Ekhomu and Nausia Woolfolk this season by becoming the 38th Seminole to reach 1,000 points.
One of FSU’s biggest wins in the regular season came at Louisville. That’s a potential Saturday semifinal matchup if the Seminoles and Cardinals claim wins on Friday.
