Nicki Ekhomu and Kiah Gillespie each scored 14 points as the No. 14 Seminoles poured it on in the second quarter and held off a late charge from Wake Forest, 70-65 on Thursday night.
Valencia Myers had eight points and a season-high 10 rebounds for FSU (16-3, 5-3 ACC), which won after losing its last three games played on Thursdays.
Freshman River Baldwin capped a 12-point performance by draining five of six free-throw attempts in the final 90 seconds to hold the Demon Deacons in bay.
FSU shot 27 of 67 (40.3 percent) from the floor. Ekhomu made 4 of 7 shots from beyond the arc.
Wake’s Ivana Raca scored 27 points on 10 of 23 shooting. But FSU held the Demon Deacons (11-8, 4-4) to just 2 of 12 from beyond the arc (16.7 percent).
The Seminoles began to pull away in the first quarter before outscoring Wake 15-7 in the second quarter.
FSU plays host to Miami on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will air on the ACC Network.
