FSU women hold off BC

Morgan Jones scored 12 of her 17 points in the second half and River Baldwin had 11 points and eight rebounds as the Florida State women’s basketball team held off Boston College 66-58 on Thursday night.

FSU (14-11, 8-7 ACC) has won four of its last five games.

Clinging to a one-point lead at halftime, FSU produced a 40-point second half.

“I’m really proud of them,” FSU Head Coach Sue Semrau said. “I felt like the physicality was something that we matched. (Taylor) Soule is a tremendous player; she’s really physical. (Maria) Gakdeng is a handful. She’s long and physical, and it was nice to see us match that.”

Freshman Mariana Valenzuela produced another fine game, chipping in with seven points and three rebounds 

The Seminoles shot 24 of 50 (48 percent) from the floor, 3 of 10 (30 percent) from 3-point range but just 15 of 27 (55.6 percent) from the free-throw line.

BC was held to just 30.9 percent (21 of 68) from the floor.
