FSU women finish regular season with a win

Florida State’s balanced attack led to a crucial home win to close out the regular season.

Valencia Myers, Morgan Jones and Bianca Jackson each had 11 points as FSU knocked off Wake Forest 59-51 on Sunday afternoon. Myers had nine rebounds while Jackson and Jones had seven rebounds apiece for the Seminoles (10-7, 9-7).

“I’m just so thrilled to be able to end the regular season this way,” interim head coach Brooke Wyckoff said. “This was a must-win in terms of being able to control our destiny going into March as much as we possibly could.”

This is the Seminoles’ ninth win over the Demon Deacons in their last 10 matchups and their fifth consecutive win against them at home.

FSU has clinched the No. 4 seed in this week’s ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., by virtue of Syracuse’s loss and the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage. That means FSU has earned a double-bye for the ACC Tournament.

Ivana Raca scored 19 points for Wake Forest (11-11, 8-10).

Redshirt junior Savannah Wilkinson scored a season-high eight points and had four rebounds, a block and a steal. FSU also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Wake Forest, 45-27.

The Seminoles finished 8-1 at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

FSU shot 24 of 57 (42.1 percent) from the floor but was just 2 of 13 (15.4 percent) from 3-point range. The Seminoles were 9 of 11 (81.8 percent) from the free-throw line.
