Make it six straight.
Trent Forrest had eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists to lead Florida State to a 63-51 win at Florida on Sunday. It was the Seminoles’ sixth straight win over the Gators. Forrest, a senior point guard, has never lost to Florida.
Devin Vassell scored 13 points on 6 of 15 shooting. He also pulled down six rebounds.
M.J. Walker added 12 points for the Seminoles (1-1), who bounced back from a season-opening loss at Pittsburgh.
“We’re both playing with a lot of inexperienced players, a lot of first-year guys,” FSU coach Leonard Hamilton said. “I’m sure they’re trying to find themselves and we’re trying to find ourselves as well.”
It was a defensive struggle early as both teams were unable to find their shooting touch in the first half. FSU shot 20 of 55 (36.4 percent) from the floor in the game.
Virginia Tech graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear had nine points and 13 rebounds for the Gators. But Blackshear was 0 for 5 from the floor.
The Gators shot just 14 of 50 (28 percent) from the floor.
“It’s hard to run offense against them,” Florida coach Mike White said. “They extend as much as anyone in the country. They deny everything. They swarm to the ball. They put a lot of ball pressure on you. It’s hard to run a bunch of sets.”
