FSU signee Latson named Florida’s Miss Basketball

A Florida State women’s basketball program in transition – the 2022-23 roster and head coach – will have a big building block coming in.

Five-star guard Ta’Niya Latson signed with FSU in November and now has been named the 2022 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball. Playing at American Heritage High School this past year, Latson averaged 27.2 points, 7.0 assists, 8.0 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 2.0 blocks per game.

Latson is the second consecutive Seminole to win the Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball award, joining All-ACC Freshman point guard O’Mariah Gordon from 2021. She is also the 12th Seminole to compete in the McDonald’s All-American Game, scoring 15 points with three rebounds and a blocked shot in 13 minutes.

In her junior season, Latson led Westlake High School to a national title and averaged 23.7 points, 2.8 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 0.5 blocks while shooting 62 percent from the floor.

FSU will have significant change on the sideline with longtime assistant coach Brooke Wyckoff taking over for her mentor, Sue Semrau. The Seminoles will also see significant turnover on the roster as rotational players like Kourtney Weber and River Baldwin have entered the transfer portal and Morgan Jones could move on to the WNBA. A few other reserves, Amaya Brown and Izabela Nicoletti, have also entered the transfer portal.
