Florida State has opened the preseason at No. 9 in the Baseball America preseason poll, which was released on Monday morning.
The Seminoles are one of three ACC teams in the top 10, behind No. 5 Virginia and No. 7 Louisville. Florida is the preseason No. 1. The full rankings can be viewed here.
Baseball America writers said: “After losing ace C.J. Van Eyk to the draft, Florida State has some questions to answer heading into this season, but an outfield of Robby Martin, Reese Albert and Elijah Cabell should be one of the best in the country, and Matheu Nelson gives the Seminoles an experienced backstop. That gives the FSU lineup considerable upside. On the mound, second-year freshman lefthanders Parker Messick and Bryce Hubbart will look to lock down weekend rotation spots around veteran righthander Conor Grady.”
FSU baseball opens the season on Feb. 19 against North Florida. The Seminoles play their first ACC series the following weekend, beginning a three-game series with Pittsburgh on Feb. 26. The Panthers are led by former FSU pitcher and pitching coach Mike Bell.
D1baseball.com had FSU at No. 24 in its preseason rankings.
