Florida State’s series win at Georgia Tech had a positive impact on the polls released on Monday.
The Seminoles are ranked 15th in the Baseball America poll. Arkansas leads an All-SEC top four, with Louisville in the fifth spot.
FSU moved up to 20th in the D1baseball.com poll. Arkansas also leads the rankings, with No. 7 Louisville the top ACC team.
The Seminoles have also made a leap in the NCAA’s RPI, moving to 58th from 69th.
Redshirt sophomore Mat Nelson, the national leader in home runs and runs batted in, was named the ACC Player of the Week on Monday. The Seminole catcher hit three home runs, a pair of doubles, had three walks and five RBIs in FSU’s series win at Georgia Tech.
Nelson hit a home run in each game of the series against the Yellow Jackets and has a home run in seven of his past eight ACC games. Nelson leads the country with 18 home runs and 54 runs batted in. His 18 home runs are the most for a Seminole in the BBCOR bat era (since 2011) and he needed just 33 games played to reach 18 home runs, the second-quickest in FSU history.
He injured his left hand in Sunday’s game but could be back in the lineup as early as Tuesday.
FSU will play host to Stetson in a home game on Tuesday (5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra). RHP Carson Montgomery (0-1, 4.01 ERA) will start for the Seminoles. Troy will start LHP Anthony DeFabbia (2-0, 4.23 ERA).
FSU will play Troy in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. All of the weekend games will stream on ACC Network Extra.
