FSU moves into top 5 of AP poll

Florida State men’s basketball has moved up to No. 5 in the latest AP poll that was released on Monday afternoon, continuing a strong push that began with the Seminoles being ranked in the preseason.

Baylor is the No. 1 team, followed by Gonzaga, Kansas and San Diego State.

It is the highest ranking for FSU since Dec. 1972. The Seminoles were as high as No. 6 in January 2017.

The Seminoles (16-2) were ranked ninth the previous poll but have moved up on the performances of the last week, which includes a home win over Virginia and a road victory over Miami.

FSU entered the rankings at 17th on Dec. 2 and has steadily climbed. The Seminoles entered the top 10 on Jan. 2.

Next up for FSU is a game on Saturday against Notre Dame at 8 p.m.

Rest of the regular season is a real grind. Team needs to keep intensity and stay healthy. It’s all about peaking in March. They are going to have some hiccups along the way.

FSU has finished off games well of late. Pulled away at Wake, the last 3 minutes vs. Virginia and then the finish to the second half plus OT at Miami. They have played their best basketball late in games and have the depth to wear out teams.
