FSU men open 21st in AP poll

It’s a tradition unlike any other: Media doubting Florida State and where to place the Seminoles in the preseason AP poll.

FSU was picked 21st in the poll, which was released on Monday. The Seminoles were the fourth ACC school in the poll, behind No. 4 Virginia, No. 9 Duke and No. 16 North Carolina.

While the Seminoles won the ACC regular-season title, often voters have looked at who the program is losing in the coming season. FSU will go into 2020-21 without Devin Vassell and Patrick Williams, both of which could be NBA lottery picks, as well as Trent Forrest.

What voters often overlook is who is coming back, from guards M.J. Walker, Rayquan Evans and Anthony Polite to forwards Malik Osborne, Wyatt Wilkes and RaiQuan Gray. And FSU has one of the nation’s top newcomers in five-star Scottie Barnes as well as Sardaar Calhoun.

Gonzaga took the top spot in the AP poll, followed by Baylor and Villanova. The complete top 25 can be viewed here.
