FSU lands commitment from three-star WR Darren Lawrence

In the 2022 recruiting cycle, Florida State did not land a receiver from the high school ranks. The coaches had to go to the transfer portal to fit the team’s needs. There were not many top-rated receivers in Florida in 2022.

This year the position is loaded. Darren Lawrence, who rated a three-star prospect by the recruiting networks, would have been one of the top-rated receivers in 2022. We will break down this commitment, which Lawrence made on Friday, and tell you what we think of the star receiver from Seminole High School.

What we like about Lawrence

He gives you a receiver with legit size (6-foot-2). We first saw Lawrence at the Battle 7 on 7 event in Orlando two years ago. He has a nice combination of size and speed. He is a kid that can go up and get the football. You can tell what type of hands he has as Lawrence returns punts and kicks. He has good hands and is reliable catching the ball. You will see him extend his hands and catch the ball away from his body. He does a very good job of snatching the ball out of the air. If it is a 50-50 ball with a defensive back you can bet Lawrence will come down with it most of the time.

What he needs to work on

Consistency. When you want to be considered one of the best receivers in the state of Florida you need to be more consistent from play to play and game to game. He will make some great plays. He needs to learn to do that all the time.

Final Thoughts

FSU is probably going to sign anywhere from three to five high school receivers this year. Good thing the state is loaded with top-flight talent at receiver. The Seminoles now have two high school receivers committed. It will be interesting to see how they handle this position moving forward. With Vandrevius Jacobs and Darrence Lawrence committed, the Seminoles can now be picky on who they decide to take commitments from in 2023.
