FSU hits three home runs but Wake evens series

Florida State had some big home runs but not nearly enough.

Reese Albert had a grand slam, Vince Smith had a two-run homer and Elijah Cabell added a solo home run in the Seminoles’ 8-7 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon, snapping the Seminoles’ seven-game win streak.

FSU (12-7, 8-6 ACC) will look to pick up a win Sunday, which would give the Seminoles four straight series wins.

Bryce Hubbart gave up six earned runs in three innings. He had seven strikeouts but also gave up seven hits and a walk. Wake Forest’s Brock Wilken hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added a grand slam in the third. The Demon Deacons added a pair of RBI singles in the sixth to take the 8-7 lead.

Tyler Martin and Matheu Nelson drew two-out walks in the ninth, but Robby Martin struck out swinging to end the game. FSU hitters struck out 10 times.

The ACC leader in on-base percentage, Tyler Martin reached on a throwing error, a hit by pitch and a walk. He has now been on base in 32 games in 33 career starts.

The Seminoles hit just 3 of 15 with runners on base.
