Florida State is hiring David Johnson from Tennessee to coach running backs, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported on Friday morning.

Tennessee wrapped up its season in the Tax Slayer Bowl in Jacksonville on Thursday, a 23-22 win over Indiana.

Johnson has coached at Tennessee the last two years, beginning as receivers coach before taking over the running backs in 2019. He was on Mike Norvell’s staff at Memphis in 2016-17 as receivers coach.

FSU has not formally announced the hire but this would complete Norvell’s on-field assistant coaching staff:

Kenny Dillingham – Offensive coordinator / quarterbacks

Adam Fuller – Defensive coordinator

John Papuchis – Special teams coordinator / defensive ends coach

Odell Haggins – Associate head coach / Defensive tackles coach

Chris Marve – Linebackers coach / defensive run game coordinator

TJ Rushing – Defensive backs coach

Chris Thomsen – Tight ends coach / deputy head coach

Alex Atkins – Offensive line coach

Ron Dugans – Receivers coach

David Johnson – Running backs coach

Do we know recruiting areas yet? Or at least where they have had recruiting responsibilities in the past?

Specific recruiting areas haven’t been set. I think we’ll get a good idea soon as assistants make visits during the open recruiting window in January.

Odell’s strength is statewide but definitely Polk County and along Interstate-4. Dugans’ strength is in Dade/Broward/Palm Beach.
