FSU DE Chatman opts out for 2020 season

Florida State defensive end Jamarcus Chatman has opted out for the 2020 season, he said in a statement released by the school on Friday afternoon.

“The reason I chose to opt out is because this is a serious deal that’s going on in the world today,” Chatman said. “A close friend of my family is in the hospital suffering from COVID-19 and that hit too close to home. My family and I decided that to be safe I should opt out this season.”

Chatman played as a reserve in four games last season as a redshirt sophomore. He will remain on scholarship, per ACC rule.

The 6-foot-2, 273-pound Chatman is the first FSU player to opt out due to coronavirus.

Someone should take responsibility and cancel the season. Too much unknown; the risks. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/vikings-cameron-smith-discovers-he-needs-heart-surgery-after-positive-covid-19-test-will-miss-2020-season/
