FSU chases Miami’s ace early, routs Canes

Florida State has begun rivalry week with quite the start.

Robby Martin went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and four runs scored and the Seminoles pounded out 14 hits in a 13-1 win over No. 6 Miami on Friday in Coral Gables.

Left-hander Parker Messick (2-2) went 6.2 innings, scattering four hits and striking out 10. He allowed just one earned run. Messick nearly matched the 11 strikeouts he had two weeks ago against Virginia.

“They’ve been swinging the bat great,” Messick told the ACC Network postgame. “It definitely helped the confidence.”

Of course, Messick also contributed as the pitcher / designated hitter. He went 1 for 4 with three RBI.

FSU (8-6, 5-5 ACC) did plenty of damage at the plate, scoring eight runs in the first two innings. Tyler Martin, Logan Lacey and Matheu Nelson each had two hits. Lacey had an RBI double and an RBI single.

The Seminoles also kept their strikeouts lower, to eight, against Miami ace right-hander Alejandro Rosario had a 1.96 ERA coming into the game but couldn’t not make it out of the second inning.

Miami had five hits, including a pair of doubles, and fell to 9-5, 5-4.
