Messick honored by the ACC
FSU left-hander Parker Messick is the ACC Pitcher of the Week after throwing seven scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts Friday against No. 7 TCU. The sophomore allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter. It is Messick’s fourth weekly honor this year and the sixth of his career. Only one other pitcher in the conference has multiple Pitcher of the Week wins this season.
Messick’s scoreless innings streak at FSU’s Dick Howser Stadium now stands at 28.2 innings over his past four starts (versus Duke, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 9 Louisville and No. 7 TCU).
In Friday night’s 10-0 win over TCU, Messick tied a career high with 14 strikeouts, his third game this season reaching that mark (no other ACC team has a pitcher with a 14-strikeout game), while allowing just two hits without a walk in seven innings. He took a perfect game into the fifth inning and a no-hitter into the sixth.
Messick is the reigning ACC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year. For the season, Messick is 6-2 with a 2.60 ERA on top of his 116 strikeouts. He has walked just 12 batters.
