Florida State continues to reach into the transfer portal to grab receiving help, landing Winston Wright Jr. on Sunday evening.
Wright is a Savannah, Ga., native who played at West Virginia. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Wright caught 63 passes for 688 yards and five touchdowns in 2021, setting career bests in each category. He also had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 95-yard return against Maryland this past fall as well as a 95-yard return for touchdown against Baylor as a freshman.
Wright has played three seasons for the Mountaineers, grabbing 129 passes for 1,338 yards and seven touchdowns, while earning Garrett Ford and Big 12 Commissioners Academic Honor Roll at West Virginia. He arrived in 2019 and has not been redshirted.
A consensus three-star prospect, Wright led his Savannah Memorial Day High School to two Georgia AA State Championships and to the semi-finals his senior year. He accumulated over 5,000 yards rushing and receiving in his three-year high school career.
“After a lot of thought and prayer I think it is in my heart to be closer to home to be around my family and community even more during this time in my life. With that being said I would like to announce I will be continuing my college career for these next eight months at Florida State University!!”
Wright is the eighth transfer to select FSU. He joins Deuce Spann (Illinois), Johnny Wilson (Arizona State) and Mycah Pittman (Oregon) as receivers who have transferred to FSU for the 2022 season.
Defensive end Jared Verse as well as offensive linemen Kayden Lykes (Wisconsin) and Bless Harris (Lamar) and defensive back Greedy Vance (Louisville) have all chosen to play for FSU.
