Defensive lineman Fabien Lovett, who is 6-foot-4 and 315-pounds, announced to today that he will be transferring to Florida State from Mississippi State.
It is the second time in the last week that the Seminoles have added depth to their front four through the transfer portal. Last week defensive end Deonte Williams announced he was leaving Baylor for FSU.
Lovett, a rising sophomore, attended Olive Branch (Miss.) High School before signing with the Bulldogs in 2018. Last season as a freshman Lovett registered 19 tackles including 2.5 sacks while appearing in 11 games.
He chooses FSU just a week after Mississippi State coach Mike Leach made a controversial post on Twitter of a woman knitting a noose for her husband. Lovett and many others found the tweet offensive and Leach eventually removed the post and apologized.
Lovett adds depth to a defensive front that could be one of the deepest in the ACC this upcoming season with Marvin Wilson, Cory Durden, Dennis Briggs, Robert Cooper and Tru Thompson all returning from last year’s team at the two interior defensive line spots in the Seminoles’ new 4-3 defense.
Jarrett Jackson will also compete for playing time in the fall after enrolling in school this past January after transferring from Louisville.
