Florida State senior linebacker Dontavious Jackson has been named to the Butkus Award watch list. The Butkus Award is presented to the nation’s top linebacker.
Jackson had 75 tackles, one sack and one interception in 2018 as a junior. He was second on the team in tackles to Hamsah Nasirildeen.
He said this spring that he gave serious thought to entering the NFL draft early before deciding to return to FSU.
“Going into college, I was a high-profile guy, saying three (years) and out,” Jackson said in March. “That was kind of the mindset. I feel like it was best for me and for the team to come back. I feel like I could raise my stock and build myself as a player and get better. There was a lot of things that I need to get better at like technique-wise and staying square, false steps and stuff like that.
“Plus, I want to go out better than that. I’m a better leader than that, and I wanted to help contribute to a better season. And get Florida State back where it’s supposed to be.”
