D.J. Williams reportedly in transfer portal

Florida State reserve D.J. Williams entered the transfer portal on Thursday, according to reports by 247Sports and Rivals. An FSU spokesperson said on Friday that Williams was no longer with the team.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Williams played in six games and ran for 47 yards and a touchdown in 2021. He transferred after two seasons from Auburn. Williams graduated in the spring, which would clear the path for him to play elsewhere in the fall.

Williams was not a big factor in the spring and appeared to be passed up on the Seminoles’ depth chart. FSU has a number of running backs with experience, led by Treshaun Ward, Lawrance Toafili, Oregon transfer Trey Benson and early enrollee Rodney Hill. The Seminoles also have walk-on CJ Campbell.

With Williams departing, it’s possible walk-ons like Campbell or defensive end Dante Anderson could earn scholarships.
