Cunningham claims national title in 60-meter hurdles

Florida State senior Trey Cunningham had already won five ACC titles in the 60-meter hurdles. His goal, though, was to win a national title and he did it with family and friends watching on Saturday evening in Birmingham, Ala., at the NCAA Indoors.

Cunningham ran a personal-best 7.38 in the 60-meter hurdles, just 0.03 seconds off the college record — set by Florida’s Grant Holloway in 2019 — and among the fastest times in the history of the sport (college or professional). He is FSU’s first indoor champion since 2014.

“I’m so happy for Trey to finally win that NCAA title,” FSU coach Bob Braman said. “Until today, he was probably the greatest collegiate track athlete ever to not win a national title. He’s No. 2 all-time indoors, and he has a chance to be the best ever outdoors.”
