Florida State opened up a big road series with an impressive win.
Elijah Cabell smacked an opposite-field three-run homer, while Parker Messick and Jack Anderson combined to keep Notre Dame’s bats in check in a 5-2 victory at South Bend, Ind., on Friday night.
Messick (6-2) worked his way out of a few jams, including situations with runners in scoring position in the first and third. The freshman left-hander pitched six innings, striking out eight and walking three but giving up just a run in the first inning. Messick now has 99 strikeouts in 2021.
It was the 11th straight Friday start where Messick has allowed fewer than two earned runs.
Anderson pitched three innings, allowing just a run in the ninth and recording his third save. The right-hander had two strikeouts and a walk.
Davis Hare also had a two-run single for FSU (24-16, 16-12 ACC). Cabell went 2 for 3, including his 12th home run. Robby Martin and Matheu Nelson scored two runs.
The Seminoles are now 9-5 on the road this season.
Jack Branigan had a sac fly and scored a run in the ninth for Notre Dame (24-9, 21-9).

FSU will play a doubleheader at Notre Dame on Saturday at 1 p.m. Due to the weather forecast, the teams have opted to play two games on Saturday. The first game will air on the ACC Network and the second game will stream on ACC Network Extra.
