Boise State will start a true freshman at quarterback against Florida State.
Broncos coach Bryan Harsin named Hank Bachmeier as the starter after winning a camp-long competition against Chase Cord and Jaylon Henderson.
“He made throws, he completed passes, he did things in the pocket and he made decisions out there that we want to see,” Harsin told writers in Boise on Saturday. “And whether a freshman, senior, doesn’t matter, those are the things that we’re looking for at that position.”
The 6-foot-1, 202-pound Bachmeier was a 247Sports four-star prospect and one of the top signees in Boise State history. He played at Murrieta Valley, Calif., and threw for more than 13,000 yards and ran for more than 2,000 yards in his prep career.
While Boise is rolling the dice with a true freshman, Bachmeier is 20 and early enrolled at the school in January. The Broncos will also return all five of its starters on the offensive line.
