Florida State looks like a football team that will show signs of improvement – and make a bowl game – in 2019.
This is something many fans feel is a reality after a disappointing 2018. And the preseason magazines agree.
FSU is projected to go 7-5, 4-4 ACC in 2019 by Athlon Sports’ preseason magazine, a two-win improvement from coach Willie Taggart’s first season. The publication has the Seminoles headed to the Sun Bowl (El Paso, Texas), while a bowl projection by Sporting News has FSU headed to the Belk Bowl (Charlotte, N.C.)
The Seminoles’ schedule is quite challenging when taking into account preseason rankings. FSU will face six opponents in Athlon’s top 30: No. 2 Clemson, No. 8 Florida, No. 21 Syracuse, No. 25 Virginia, No. 28 Miami and No. 29 Boise. FSU is ranked 33rd in the preseason by Athlon.
Junior defensive tackle Marvin Wilson was named to Athlon’s third-team defense. Wilson, who also made the publication’s preseason All-ACC first team, had 42 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 2018.
Tailback Cam Akers and receiver Tamorrion Terry made the second team, while safety Jaiden Lars-Woodbey and returner D.J. Matthews were on the third team. Akers is on the regional cover of multiple preseason magazines.
