Brian Courtney of Ashburn (Va.) Independence committed to Florida State on Thursday via Twitter, days after visiting Tallahassee for spring game weekend.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Courtney is not ranked by 247Sports. He is viewed as a potential blocker with added weight at tight end. He plays quarterback for his high school team.
“Shows some athletic ability when he runs with the ball,” Osceola recruiting analyst Charles Fishbein said. “Projects as an H-back or tight end. Will need a redshirt to learn a new position. He is being recruited as an athlete.”
“Courtney is a very good athlete, who runs well,” said Osceola Football Analyst Pat Burnham. “He is physical and runs with great leg drive as a ball carrier. He also plays defense where he shows the ability to be a downhill player and is athletic enough to be used in coverage. With FSU’s lack of depth at linebacker it wouldn’t shock me if he ends up on defense but most experts believe he will sign with the Seminoles as a tight end. Because of his size and athleticism he will have the chance to be considered at several positions and Mike Norvell has stressed that he likes players that have versatile skill sets.”
