Four-star quarterback Luke Altmyer has de-committed from Florida State, leaving the Seminoles with a gaping hole in the 2021 signing class.
Altmyer made his announcement on Monday morning.
It is the third straight year an FSU quarterback commitment has backed off his pledge in December. Sam Howell signed with North Carolina in Dec. 2018, while Jeff Sims chose Georgia Tech last year. As a result, FSU wasn’t able to sign a high school quarterback in 2018 or ’19 classes.
The early signing period begins on Dec. 16. FSU’s class is currently 34th in the 247Sports standings, following ACC schools like Clemson (6), Notre Dame (8), Miami (13), UNC (14), NC State (28), Pittsburgh (30), Louisville (31) and Georgia Tech (33).
FSU coach Mike Norvell is expected to pursue another high school quarterback and will likely hit the transfer portal for a veteran quarterback.
