Falentha Carswell might be new to football but has quickly gained attention from a host of ACC and SEC football programs over the last two months. Carswell, who is 6-foot-7 and 275 pounds, had not played football in high school until this spring for Sandersville (Ga.) Washington County High. And based on the list of schools he is hearing from, which includes FSU, he has been successful in his transition to life on the gridiron.
A basketball standout, Carswell has grown accustomed to overpowering defenders on the hardwood with his big frame. Earlier this year he decided to try his hand at offensive tackle for Washington County. Carswell’s size, length and athleticism are hard to find and his list offers seems to be growing daily.
In April, Carswell received his first scholarship offer from Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. He has since received offers from Miami, Oregon, Georgia Tech and Georgia State, will since May 7.
“It was just like BOOM,” said Carswell of his sudden popularity with college coaches from across the country.
While Carswell hasn’t received an offer from FSU yet he has been hearing from them regularly. An offer could be just around the corner based on the amount of communication between he and the Seminoles.
“I talk every day with Florida State,” said Carswell.
Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee are also on the list of schools that have expressed interest in Carswell but haven’t extended a scholarship offer yet. And he is already lining up unofficial visits for this summer.
The young prospect says he will visit Georgia, Georgia Tech, Alabama and Clemson in June. He currently doesn’t have a visit set with the Seminoles but that is likely to change if he is offered by FSU. Carswell said an offer from Mike Norvell and Alex Atkins would be a “significant” development in his recruitment.
“I’m waiting on Florida State to officially offer me,” noted Carswell.
